History

Laholmen has an exciting history to tell...

In 1861, Consul Emil Smith built a bowling alley on Laholmen without asking the authorities for permission. The bowling alley and its associated 'Schweizeri' became a popular place, which was expanded in 1889. It was not until the 1950s that the hotel business really began, when restaurateur Allan Mulich carried out a series of extensive additions and renovations. Under Mulich's leadership, Laholmen became one of Sweden's leading hotels and restaurants in the 1950s and 1960s. On Christmas night 1974, the final blow came when a bed-smoking Norwegian caused the entire hotel to burn down. Then, ten years later, on the 17th of May 1984, the Laholmen as we see it today was opened.
